Up to 94 fresh Covid-19 patients in Vietnam were reported on January 28, including 83 in Hai Duong Province, 10 in Quang Ninh Province, and one in Hai Phong. This is the biggest Covid-19 outbreak in Vietnam since the country was affected by the pandemic.

The patients have been hit by a new and more contagious variant of SARS-CoV-2 which has the incubation period of just 2-3 days against around four days of the old strain. Khue added, noting that within a short time, many staff from Poyun Ltd. Co. where Patient 1552 works at have been infected by the virus.

In necessary cases, the lockdown on Hai Duong and Quang Ninh would be imposed, which will be submitted to the prime minister for consideration.

Van Don International Airport in Quang Ninh has also been closed for Covid-19 prevention efforts.
