Fans flood streets to celebrate Vietnam's ASEAN Cup victory

Fans poured onto the streets of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and other loclaities on Wednesday night to celebrate Vietnam's ASEAN Cup 2026 title, waving national flags and chanting 'Vietnam'.

Vietnam drew 2-2 with Thailand in the second leg of the final at My Dinh Stadium, securing a 4-2 aggregate victory after a 2-0 win in the first leg at Bangkok's Rajamangala Stadium.

The victory marked Vietnam's second consecutive ASEAN Cup title.

In Hanoi, thousands of supporters took to the streets immediately after the final whistle. Within 10 minutes, major roads in the city centre, including Kim Ma and Nguyen Thai Hoc, were packed with celebrating crowds.

In Yen Trung Commune in the central province of Nghe An, the hometown of forward Nguyen Dinh Bac, hundreds of residents had gathered before kick-off at the Cho Hen Pagoda grounds to watch the final on a large LED screen.

Celebrations erupted after the final whistle, with locals expressing pride in both the national team's triumph and their hometown player.

"Dinh Bac is from our hometown, so everyone followed every moment of the match with even greater excitement. Today's victory is a great joy for both the fans and the people of his hometown," local resident Nguyen Thang said.
