Hanoi pilots birth registration service at maternity hospital

Hanoi has launched a pilot birth registration service at Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynaecology Hospital, receiving 60 applications in its first week, with 20 already processed.

The initiative, jointly introduced by the Hanoi Public Administrative Service Centre and the hospital, allows parents to complete birth registration procedures while staying at the hospital after childbirth.

Instead of visiting government offices, families can receive guidance from administrative staff on required documents, application forms and online registration procedures.

The service aims to reduce travel and paperwork for families with newborn babies, particularly while mothers are recovering after childbirth.

According to the centre, 60 applications were received during the first week, with 20 already processed.

Applications submitted at the hospital are forwarded to the relevant commune- or ward-level authorities across Hanoi on the same day.

Applications have come from families living in several wards and communes, including Lang, Ngoc Ha, Giang Vo, Xuan Dinh, Hoang Mai, Thuong Tin, An Khanh, Soc Son, Gia Lam and Phu Xuyen.

Officials said the results showed that the service could benefit families from different parts of the city, rather than only those living near the hospital.

However, the pilot has encountered some difficulties, mainly involving coordination with local authorities responsible for processing applications and the stability of user accounts on the administrative system.

The centre said it would work with the hospital and relevant agencies to resolve these issues, improve procedures and provide clearer guidance to parents.

Authorities will assess the pilot's effectiveness before considering expansion to other healthcare facilities that meet the necessary requirements.
