Hanoi to launch digital platform showcasing 28 heritage sites

Hanoi will launch a digital platform on October 18, allowing visitors to explore 28 heritage sites through interactive maps, QR codes and historical archives.

The platform, titled "Hanoi Heritage Tourism Journey", will be officially unveiled at Kim Ngan Communal House, 44 Hang Bac Street, Hoan Kiem Ward.

It will enable residents, tourists and students to explore Hanoi's heritage sites independently while accessing organised research materials and historical records.

The initiative is funded by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs' Équipe France Fund through the French Embassy and the French Institute in Vietnam.

It is led by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities under Vietnam National University, Hanoi, in cooperation with the French School of Asian Studies (EFEO) and the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF).

Over approximately a year, nearly 40 experts and 100 students surveyed more than 100 heritage sites before selecting 28 representative locations.

Each site has a digital profile containing historical and contemporary photographs, videos, scientific descriptions, stone inscriptions, Han-Nom documents, architectural drawings and reference materials.

The information has been consolidated into a single platform to support tourism, education and academic research.

The platform features four themed heritage trails covering the Four Sacred Temples of Thang Long, Mother Goddess temples, communal houses dedicated to traditional craft founders and Hanoi's Buddhist pagodas.

Together, the routes highlight the capital's diverse heritage, from folk beliefs and religious architecture to the history of traditional craft guilds in the Old Quarter.

The project also aims to make heritage resources more accessible beyond conventional sightseeing.

Schools can incorporate the trails into extracurricular activities, visitors can explore sites using interactive maps and QR codes, while researchers can access organised historical and architectural records.

Four pilot routes were introduced at Quan Thanh Temple on December 3, 2025. The upcoming launch marks their integration into a unified digital platform.

Following the launch ceremony, delegates are expected to take a walking tour along Hang Bac, Hang Ngang and Hang Dao streets towards Hoan Kiem Lake.

Developed through Vietnam-France cooperation, the project seeks to combine academic research with digital technology, making Hanoi's cultural heritage more accessible to the public while supporting its preservation and promotion.
