According to the airline, Ahmedabad will become its fifth destination in India, bringing its total service to the market to 25 return flights a week. With the new route, Vietnam Airlines will operate seven routes between Vietnam and India, connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad.
Vietnam welcomed more than 670,000 visitors from India in the first nine months of 2026, up 33 per cent year on year.
Nguyen Quang Trung, deputy general director of Vietnam Airlines, said the Ahmedabad route would give the carrier a new gateway to western India, facilitating tourism, trade and economic co-operation with Gujarat state and India more broadly.
Since the beginning of the year, Vietnam Airlines has added services to Amsterdam in the Netherlands, Colombo in Sri Lanka and Phuket in Thailand. It has also increased frequencies on several routes, including Munich in Germany, Moscow in Russia, Taipei in Taiwan, Osaka and Tokyo in Japan, and Seoul in South Korea.
Meanwhile, Vietjet has expanded its network with routes linking Hanoi and Almaty, Hanoi and Prague in the Czech Republic, and Almaty and Prague. The Hanoi-Prague journey includes a stop in Almaty, marking the airline’s expansion into the European market.
A one-way Vietjet ticket from Hanoi to Almaty currently costs about VND 3.5 million (USD 135). Some foreign carriers offer connecting itineraries through other hubs. Qatar Airways, for example, has fares of about VND 11 million (USD 424) for journeys connecting in Doha.
Of particular note, Vietjet will launch a service from Ho Chi Minh City to the Maldives on December 5, with a connection in Colombo. Passengers can book the entire journey in a single reservation.
On the airline’s booking website, a Deluxe-class ticket from Ho Chi Minh City to Colombo costs about VND 3 million (USD 116), including taxes and fees. The Colombo-Male leg costs around VND 4.8 million to VND 5.2 million (USD 185-200), depending on whether passengers choose Eco or Deluxe class. The total one-way fare to the Maldives is therefore about VND 8 million (USD 308).
Previously, Vietnamese travellers typically connected through Singapore, Malaysia or Thailand to reach the Maldives. On a Singapore itinerary, a one-way ticket from Ho Chi Minh City to Singapore can cost about VND 1.4 million (USD 54), while Singapore Airlines fares from Singapore to Male range from VND 8 million to VND 12 million (USD 308-462). Total airfare can reach VND 10 million to VND 13 million (USD 385-501) per person, depending on the travel date.
