Six Chinese fishing boats challenged

The Border Defence Force of the central province of Quang Binh on April 7 found six Chinese illegally fishing within local waters a few days after a Chinese oil tanker was detained off Haiphong.

The Border Defence Force of the central province of Quang Binh on April 7 found six Chinese illegally fishing within local waters a few days after a Chinese oil tanker was detained off Haiphong.

The Chinese boats were caught when operating just 19 nautical miles to the east of the Nhat Le Estuary.

Fishermen on one among six detained Chinese fishing boats 

Two patrol vessels followed the Chinese boats and detained them on the afternoon of April 7.

The six boats had 28 fishermen who lacked identity papers. The force requested them to sign a document to acknowledge their violation and promise to not return and were escorted out of Vietnamese territorial waters.

A Chinese vessel carrying 100,000 litres of diesel was detained near Bach Long Vi Island in the Gulf of Tonkin on April 4. Local border forces said the vessel was illegally present in Vietnamese waters.
