A poor ethnic minority couple in the southernmost province of Ca Mau have received nearly VND400 million in donations from the public to save their daughter who is facing liver cancer.

Huu Thi Ngoc Nang, 30, from Thoi Binh District is taking care of her four-year-old daughter Ngo Huu Khanh Bang who has been diagnosed with liver cancer since late last year.
According to the mother, Bang was born healthy but suddenly faced long bellyaches and high fevers late last year. She was taken to Ca Mau Obstetrics and Paediatrics Hospital. However, doctors there referred her to a hospital in HCM City for treatment when her condition worsened. She was then diagnosed with liver cancer which needs chemotherapy.
The mother said that the chemotherapy had caused her little daughter frequent nausea and hair loss. She has become thinner and often cries at night.

Meanwhile, the couple continued to do odd jobs to earn a modest income. And since their child developed an illness, they just spent their time caring for her.
After their story was published on Dantri/Dtinews, many people expressed their sympathy and sent money to help the family.
A representative of Dantri/Dtinews recently visited the family and transferred VND 128,898,799 which readers sent to the newspaper's charity programme to support the family. The family also received over VND 38 million more and an additional VND 230 million was sent directly to them.
Huu Thi Ngoc Nang said that she was very moved to receive such significant support from Dantri Newspaper and other kind donors.
"I want to send my sincere thanks to Dantri and all the kind donors," she said. "We’ll use the money to cover treatment for our daughter and open a savings bank account for later use."
