The 65-year-old man, patient 1823, is from Me Linh District. He was sent to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases since February 2.

A Covid-19 patient
One week after being hospitalised, he has seen worse symptoms, requiring the use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). He is currently staying at the hospital’s Intensive Care Ward.
Doctor Dong Phu Khiem, deputy head from the ward, said despite using ECMO, his condition had not yet improved as up to 95% of his lung has been damaged.
Khiem, however, added that he still had a chance to be saved as other organs have remained quite stable.
According to Khiem, Vietnamese doctors have gathered many experiences in treatment for many Covid-19 cases that had underlying diseases.
Meanwhile, Patient 1536, 79 years old, has seen improvement. The patient has stopped using ECMO since February 28 and his organ functions have become gradually stable.
