Vietnam announced 11,352 more Covid-19 infections on Sunday with five localities of HCM City, Binh Duong, Long An, Dong Nai, and Tien Giang provinces reporting high number of patients according to the Ministry of Health.
According to the ministry's report, 11,346 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in some localities such as HCM City (4,193 cases), Binh Duong (3,795), Dong Nai (849), Tien Giang (709), Long An (365), Danang (183), Khanh Hoa (160), Dong Thap (142), and Ba Ria - Vung Tau (107). Among these new infections, 6,387 cases were found in the community. There were six imported patients recorded.
As of Sunday evening, 343,972 locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27. The outbreak has so far spread to 62 cities and provinces nationwide.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 348,059 with some southern localities recording the highest numbers such as HCM City (175,994), Binh Duong (70,242), Long An (17,805), Dong Nai (17,688), and Tien Giang (7,284). The country now stands 68th among 222 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On August 22, an additional 7,580 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 147,667 .
Also on Sunday evening, a further 737 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 8,277. The deaths were reported in HCM City (599), Binh Duong (62), Dong Nai (25), Tien Giang (22), Dong Thap (11), Can Tho (4), Long An (4), Hanoi (2), Ben Tre (2), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (1), Ha Tinh (1), Kien Giang (1), Soc Trang (1), Thua Thien Hue (1), and Vinh Long (1).
The country has so far conducted over 17.06 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 1.79 million people having received two doses.
