The vessels, the frigate HMCS Regina and supply ship Asterix, docked on June 10, bringing with 320 naval officers led by Lieutenant Colonel Jacob French, commanding officer of the HMCS Regina.

The trip is part of the Canadian Navy’s exchange programme with their counterparts in the Asia-Pacific.
During the stay in Vietnam, the Canadian delegation will have sports exchanges with Vietnamese naval officers and visit a local social centre as well as repair houses for a charitable centre in Cam Ranh.
Deborah Paul, Canadian ambassador to Vietnam, said that the visit followed an agreement on defense co-operation signed between the two countries recently, showing that Canadian’s commitments to be a reliable defence partner of Vietnam.
The highlight of the tour will be the final day, June 13, when the Canadian vessels join Vietnamese naval ships for a naval exercise, according to Lieutenant Colonel Jacob French.
The frigate HMCS Regina is 134 metres long and 16 metres high can travel at a maximum speed of 30 nautical miles per hour. It is installed with anti-submarine and anti-ship combat weapons and radar systems that have powerful anti-aircraft combat capabilities.
Meanwhile, the Asterix is 188 metres long and can run at 20 nautical miles per hour.
