The Vietnamese delegation was led by Professor and Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Long.
After two-days of working in a positive and prompt manner, the ministers issued a joint statement and reached an agreement on the framework of an action plan on prevention and control of the spread of the Ebola disease.At the national level, each participating country is urged to evaluate its capacity to respond to acute infections and Ebola in particular, following instructions of the World Health Organisation.
The ministers affirmed political commitment and pledged their highest resources to facilitate implementation of measures on preventing and controlling acute infections. It is also necessary to increase the awareness of people in Ebola affected countries and acute infections in general, they stressed.
Documents and warning information on the diseases should be distributed to the people in case of emergency.
At the regional level, the 13 countries will foster co-operation in limiting the spread of acute infections through border gates, sharing information, finance resources, and other available resources in the fight against the diseases.
They will also work closely together to provide more communication channels and improve qualifications of healthcare staff, as well as to develop vaccinations and work out treatments for Ebola patients.
At a global level, the ASEAN+3 nations have pledged support for Ebola affected countries through international partners, while increasing the affected countries’ capacity to counter the spread of the epidemic.
