111 people killed in traffic accidents during four-day holiday

A total of 152 traffic accidents occurred across the country, claiming 111 lives and leaving 138 injured during the four-day holiday from April 30 to May 3, according to the National Traffic Safety Committee.

A passenger bus collided with two trucks in the central province of Quang Ngai on Tuesday morning, claiming four lives and injuring eight others. 

Most of the accidents occurred on roads with 149 incidents leading to 108 deaths and 137 injuries. There were three railway accidents, killing three people and injuring one.

According to the committee, the figures represented a slight decrease from the same period last year with a 53 fall in number of accidents, drop of five in number of fatalities and 11 in number of injuries.

The last day of the holiday, May 3, saw the highest number of traffic accidents with 37 incidents killing 37 people and injuring 45 others.

An accident involving a passenger bus and two trucks in the central province of Quang Ngai on Tuesday morning claimed three lives and injured eight others.

At the site of the accident, a Ford Transit 16 was seen stuck between a freight lorry and a dump truck.

The collision killed three, leaving seven seriously injured and one slightly injured, all of whom were on board the passenger bus. The fourth victim died later in hospital.
