Vietnam's rescue and relief team is preparing to return home after completing its humanitarian mission following the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela.

Late on July 8, an Airbus A350 departed Noi Bai International Airport for Simon Bolivar International Airport to bring home the military and police personnel who took part in earthquake response operations.

Earlier, on July 6 local time, the Venezuelan government awarded the Vietnamese rescue team the First-Class Hero of Venezuela Medal in recognition of its contribution to post-earthquake relief efforts.

The twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 caused widespread loss of life and extensive damage to property, particularly in La Guaira State, where residential areas and high-rise buildings were heavily affected.

Vietnam's rescue contingent, comprising military and police personnel, arrived in Venezuela on June 29 to support search-and-rescue and disaster recovery operations.

Engineering units, military medical teams, search dogs and specialist personnel worked in close coordination, carrying out operations with an emphasis on speed, precision and safety.

According to Vietnamese authorities, the team recovered dozens of victims' bodies from collapsed buildings and handed them over to local authorities, helping provide closure to affected families. Team members also provided free medical examinations and medicines, distributed relief supplies and assisted residents in moving their belongings.
