The offence carries a fine of between VND 3 million and VND 5 million (USD 115-USD 190) and a deduction of two points from the driver's licence.

The violation was detected at about 9 pm on September 13 when traffic police stopped a sleeper coach bearing registration number 79F-001xx travelling on National Highway 1 in Bac Ninh Hoa Commune. Officers had suspected the vehicle was carrying animals in its luggage compartment.

During the inspection, police found six goats being transported in the storage area beneath the passenger cabin, in breach of regulations governing the carriage of animals on passenger vehicles.

Traffic police said transporting animals on passenger buses not only violates transport regulations but may also pose hygiene, environmental and safety risks to passengers.
