1.6 tonnes of ivory seized in Haiphong
The Customs Department in the northern coastal city of Haiphong have seized nearly 1.6 tonnes of ivory illegally imported into the city by sea.
The Customs Department in the northern coastal city of Haiphong seize nearly 1.6 tonnes of ivory on March 23.
The department announced on Monday that they found the ivory while checking a container at Lach Huyen International Port on March 23.
"547 ivory pieces painted black and weighed 1,580 kilos," the department said, adding that this was the first time such methods have been seen in the country.
Local authorities are further investigating the case.
