The Hue Central Hospital said on July 7 that the child, a Kazakhstan national, had made a full recovery after undergoing emergency treatment.

The infant was transferred from a hospital in Danang on July 4 after swallowing an open safety pin, a life threatening injury that doctors said carried a high risk of tearing the oesophagus, causing severe bleeding, perforation and infection if left untreated.
Following an emergency consultation, a specialist team performed an urgent endoscopic procedure and safely removed the sharp object without causing further damage to the oesophageal lining or any complications.
Doctors said an open safety pin is among the most challenging foreign objects to remove from a young child's digestive tract because its exposed sharp end can easily shift and cause serious internal injuries during the procedure.
