The acting president also awarded the Medal for Meritorious Service to the delegation's search and rescue dog unit for its outstanding work during the disaster response. A rescue dog named Xu Kip received the decoration on behalf of the unit, which also included three dogs that had previously taken part in earthquake relief missions in Turkey and Myanmar in 2023 and 2025.

The Vietnamese team has so far recovered dozens of victims from collapsed buildings and handed the bodies over to local authorities. It has also provided free medical consultations and medicines, distributed relief supplies and helped residents move their belongings as part of its humanitarian assistance.
