Work on the 8.7-hectare Dong Anh Waste Treatment Plant started in 2011 and was slated for being put into use in April 2017.
The project invested by Thanh Quang Investment JS Company was offered free land rental for 50 years.
Many facilities were built after the investor received the land, but the project has been left unused.
Nguyen Anh Dung, vice chairman of the Dong Anh District People’s Committee, cited the investor as saying that the sluggish implementation pace is due to the lack of staff for the plant’s operation. “Until now, local authorities have not yet received any more information about speeding up the project,” Dung added.
Meanwhile, rubbish piles up on the roadside just 100 metres from the plant, causing serious pollution.
