Northern region to face intense cold spell this weekend

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, Vietnam's northern region will face an intense cold wave this weekend.

Cold weather is forecasted to hit northern localities from February 7-8, bringing frost to high mountainous areas. Meanwhile, lowland areas including Hanoi will see the lowest temperature of 7-8 degrees Celsius.

This cold wave will last many days and affect central localities from Quang Binh to Binh Dinh.

On February 5-6, Hanoi would have temperatures ranging from 10-20 degrees Celsius.

The centre forecasts that in February 2025, cold air will persistently affect Vietnam with a higher frequency than the historical average. This will be especially noticeable in the latter half of the month, bringing prolonged cold spells and frost to the northern region and the northern central provinces of Thanh Hoa and Nghe An.

In January 2025, Vietnam endured three cold spells on the 9th, 14th, and 26th. The cold front on January 26th brought widespread, severe cold and frost to the northern and northern central regions.
