Authorities in Duy Nghia Commune said on October 3 that they had received the animal for rescue and eventual release back into the wild.

The pangolin was handed over by a man named Sau from Nhon Boi Village. He spotted the animal while driving and took it home.
After learning that the pangolin was an endangered and protected wild species, Sau contacted the authorities and voluntarily handed it over.
The animal weighed seven kilogrammes and was identified as a Sunda pangolin (Manis javanica), an endangered and protected species.
It is being cared for and monitored by a rescue team while authorities complete procedures for its release back into the wild.
