Tuyen Quang buckwheat flower festival opens year-end tourism season

The 12th Buckwheat Flower Festival opened in Dong Van Commune, Tuyen Quang Province, on October 25, marking the start of the year-end tourism season in Vietnam's northern highlands.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Do Hung Duc, vice chairman of the provincial People's Committee, said the festival had become a major cultural and tourism event promoting Tuyen Quang at home and abroad.

Under the theme 'Echoes of the Stone Plateau', this year's festival celebrates the beauty of buckwheat flowers and the cultural heritage and resilience of ethnic communities living in the rocky highlands.

Tuyen Quang authorities said tourism development should go hand in hand with environmental protection, the preservation of local traditions and greater community participation.

They stressed that the festival's success should be measured not only by visitor numbers but also by its contribution to local jobs, incomes and heritage conservation.

A series of cultural, sporting, culinary and tourism activities will take place across the Dong Van Karst Plateau through December, offering visitors opportunities to explore the region's landscapes and ethnic traditions.

The province plans to plant around 400 hectares of buckwheat flowers across communes on the plateau, particularly along National Highway 4C and near major tourist attractions.

Flower-viewing sites include Heaven's Gate, Thach Son Than, Yen Minh, Tham Ma Pass, the road to Pao's House, Lung Cam Cultural Village, the Vuong Family Mansion and the Dong Van Karst Plateau Museum.

The flower fields are intended to connect popular sightseeing routes with heritage sites, traditional villages and community-based tourism services.

According to the TuyenQuang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Tuyen Quang welcomed more than 3.24 million visitors in the first nine months of 2026, up 0.9 per cent from a year earlier and reaching 90.1 per cent of its annual target.
