Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet plan flights at Long Thanh Airport

Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air are planning services at Long Thanh International Airport, which is expected to handle up to 366 flights a week, including 322 domestic and 44 international flights.

The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) said on October 28 that the airport was expected to operate up to around 366 flights per week.

Vietnam Airlines will focus on the Long Thanh-Hanoi route and several international services, while Vietjet Air will prioritise connections with major economic and tourism hubs across the country.

Several international airlines have also expressed interest in and support for operating at Long Thanh.

The publication of aviation information required for official operations is expected to be completed in December, helping ensure the necessary conditions are in place for the airport to open as scheduled.

As of late October, four of the project's 16 main construction packages had been completed. Contractors were accelerating work on the remaining 12 to meet the target for the start of commercial operations. According to the relevant regulatory authorities, most of the ongoing packages are expected to be completed in December.

Located in Dong Nai City, Long Thanh International Airport is a key national project with a total investment of around USD 5 billion. Covering 5,364 hectares, it is designed to handle 100 million passengers a year and is intended to become Vietnam's largest airport.

The project is divided into three phases: Phase 1 from 2021 to 2025, Phase 2 from 2025 to 2030, and Phase 3 from 2035 to 2040.
