During interviews, the citizens said they had travelled to Cambodia mainly to work at karaoke venues, restaurants and other service businesses, or to take jobs in other sectors. Two had previous criminal convictions. Most said they had crossed into Cambodia multiple times to seek work, including illegal employment.
Checks found no cases identified as victims or suspected victims of human trafficking. Most of the citizens had legally left Vietnam using passports, while some had crossed the border illegally through border areas in several provinces.
Authorities drew up records and imposed administrative penalties in accordance with the law on those found to have crossed the border illegally.
Also on October 26, Ha Tien International Border Gate Border Guard Station in Ha Tien Ward, An Giang Province, coordinated with relevant forces to receive 11 Vietnamese citizens who had been living and working illegally in Cambodia and were handed over by Cambodian law enforcement authorities.
