The abandoned confectionery products left at local dumping sites are estimated to have amounted to dozens of tonnes.

Arriving at the site on Thursday morning, La Phu Chairman Nguyen Duy Giang said they had also reported the situation to the Hoai Duc District People's Committee for further instructions.

"We've asked the local environment agency to urgently gather the waste for transportation to Nam Son and Xuan Son waste treatment sites to avoid pollution," the official said. "At the same time, police have been requested to find the owners of this waste."

The move came after a large number of abandoned confectionery products were dumped around the La Phu Industrial Park over recent weeks.

According to residents, many confectionery manufacturers in La Phu Industrial Park have dumped their unsellable products or ingredients used in production at surrounding dump sites.

"These activities occur every year when they clear their stock at the end of the lunar year," a resident said. "This year, the amount of dumped products seems much bigger."

Giang said that La Phu Industrial Park is home to over 100 manufacturers, most of which produce food and confectionery products and discharge a large amount of rubbish daily.
