Tan Son Nhat Airport announced on October 30 that they had co-operated with other relevant units to arrest an Indian national for illegally transporting over 360 diamonds through the airport
According to a report from the airport, they noticed D.A.K, an Indian citizen, acting suspiciously after entering the southern city on a flight from Hong Kong (China) on October 25.
Upon checking his luggage, they discovered a total of 15 plastic packages containing 362 diamonds hidden at the bottom of two candy boxes and covered by real candies on top.
Earlier on October 23, Prajapati Shaileshkumar Hareshbhai was found carrying 716 diamonds when he entered Vietnam from India via the airport.
"Upon arrival, the man proceeded through the green lane without declaring any goods and was found carrying one checked suitcase, one carry-on backpack, and a shoulder bag," the police said. "When scanning, authorities discovered 716 diamonds carefully concealed in wallets and mixed within his clothing and personal items."
He confessed to police officers, admitting that if the diamonds had been successfully transported, they would have been sold to traders in the city.
The two men have been arrested while police are expanding their investigation into the cases.
