Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has assigned Nguyen Tien Hai, a member of the Party Central Committee, to the Ministry of Home Affairs, where he will serve as acting minister following his transfer from the post of Party Secretary of An Giang Province.
Born in 1965 in Ca Mau, Nguyen Tien Hai is a member of the 13th and 14th Party Central Committees and a deputy to the 16th National Assembly. He holds a master's degree in public administration and a bachelor's degree in law.
Hai began his career in the provincial youth organisation and went on to hold a series of leadership roles, including vice-chair and chair of the Minh Hai Provincial Young Pioneers Council, secretary of U Minh District Youth Union, head of the ideology and culture department of the Minh Hai Provincial Youth Union, and principal of the provincial youth training school.
In 1997, he became deputy secretary of the Ca Mau Provincial Youth Union, overseeing organisational affairs. He later served as president of the Vietnam Youth Federation in Ca Mau Province before being appointed chief of the provincial Party Committee office.
In early 2004, Hai became Party secretary of Cai Nuoc District in Ca Mau Province. Just over a year later, he was appointed director of the provincial Department of Justice.
In mid-2009, he was promoted to vice-chair of the Ca Mau People's Committee. After one term, he became deputy secretary of the provincial Party Committee, overseeing grassroots organisation and internal affairs.
From July 2015, Hai served a full term as deputy secretary of the Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee and chair of the provincial People's Committee. In July 2020, he was appointed Party secretary of Ca Mau Province while continuing as chair of the People's Committee.
At the 13th National Party Congress in January 2021, he was elected to the 13th Party Central Committee and continued as Party secretary of Ca Mau Province, later also serving as chair of the provincial People's Council.
In 2025, Hai became Party secretary of Kien Giang Province for the 2020-2025 term. Following the merger of Kien Giang and An Giang provinces, he was elected Party secretary of the newly established An Giang Province.
At the 14th National Party Congress, Hai was re-elected to the Party Central Committee and continued as Party secretary of An Giang Province. He also became head of the An Giang delegation to the 16th National Assembly.
The Ministry of Home Affairs is responsible for state administration across a broad range of areas, including the organisation of the administrative system, local government, civil servants and public employees, labour policy, wages, social insurance and employment.
The ministry also oversees occupational safety and health, associations, social and charitable funds, non-governmental organisations, services for people with meritorious service, youth affairs, gender equality, state records and archives, emulation and rewards, and the regulation of public services within its areas of responsibility.
