The federation announced its Tet support programme on October 21, with eligible workers expected to receive between VND 500,000 and VND 1 million each.
Phung Thai Quang, vice chairman of the federation, said priority would be given to workers facing job losses, reduced working hours, low incomes, unpaid wages, serious illnesses, workplace accidents or family hardship.
Those facing exceptional difficulties could receive up to VND 2 million, subject to eligibility requirements.
The federation also plans to organise Tet celebrations at nine locations, alongside subsidised markets offering essential goods at discounted prices, free products and cultural activities.
To help migrant workers return home for Tet, the city plans to provide 7,500 one-way tickets, comprising 5,000 bus tickets, 2,000 train tickets and 500 air tickets. Beneficiaries will also receive travel meal allowances and Tet gifts.
Separately, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour will provide 1,200 return train tickets and 260 return air tickets, along with 1,460 cash gifts worth VND 500,000 each.
Priority will be given to eligible workers who have been unable to return home for several years.
Quang urged trade unions to identify beneficiaries transparently, avoid overlapping assistance and closely monitor wages, Tet bonuses and holiday arrangements at businesses.
He also called for support programmes for workers staying in HCM City or working throughout the holiday.
According to Bui Cong Hoan, deputy head of the federation's Legal Policy and Labour Relations Division, the city aimed for all grassroots trade unions to coordinate Tet support activities with employers.
The federation also hopes every disadvantaged union member and worker will receive at least one form of assistance from trade unions, businesses or other funding sources.
Special attention will be given to pregnant workers, mothers with children under 36 months, relatives of fallen soldiers, retired trade union officials and workers at major construction projects during Tet.
The main Tet support programme is scheduled for January 22 to February 3, 2027, focusing on industrial areas, rented accommodation and worker housing.
A separate union-organised Tet market will run from January 23 to 25 at the city's Labour Cultural Palace, with around 10,000 participants expected.
The federation said the initiatives aim to help disadvantaged workers celebrate Tet, maintain financial stability and return to work after the holiday.
