Hundreds of trees destroyed in Dak Nong protective forest

Authorities in the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong are investigating forest destruction at a protective forest in Tuy Duc District after nearly 600 trees had been felled there.

The wood seized on January 16.

According to the Dak Nong Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, a man was found transporting wood in his homemade vehicle near the Bu Chap Border Guard Station on January 16.

The man, identified as Y Ngai Nie, 19, who resides in the neighbouring Cu M'gar District, failed to show papers showing the origins of the wood.

From the man's statement, local border guard officers checked a nearby protective forest and found that 569 trees had been felled down and cut into pieces waiting to be transported.

Nearly 600 trees are felled down in a protective forest in Dak Nong Province.

More than 32 cubic metres of wood were found left at the site. 

Also, based on the statement from Y Ngai Nie, Dak Nong police and border guard officers summoned seven other suspects allegedly involved in the forest destruction case. 

Dak Nong Police are investigating the case further.
