Northern Vietnam braces for heavy rains

The northern region of Vietnam is expected to see a rainy spell for some days, with the highest rainfall of up to 450mm in mountainous areas.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, rainfall is forecast to range between 70 and 170mm, with several mountainous areas potentially receiving up to 450mm.

Rains are likely to be concentrated in the late afternoon and at night. Thunderstorms may bring whirlwinds, lightning, hail, and strong gusts.

The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has warned of rains exceeding 100mm in three hours, which could cause flash floods, landslides in mountainous areas, and localised flooding in low-lying areas.

Hanoi is predicted to witness rains on June 19-21, mostly in the late afternoon and at night, with a maximum rainfall of 70mm.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are also forecasted for the Central Highlands and the southern regions in the coming days.
