Dead fish can be seen floating to the shore along some streets of Thanh Nien, Nguyen Dinh Thi, and Trich Sai.

According to the Hanoi Sewerage and Drainage Company, the problem has been occurring since early this week and environmental workers have been sent to gather the dead fish from the lake.

"We're collecting over a tonne of dead fish each day," the company said.

The Hanoi Department of Construction explained that the fish died of water pollution, changing weather and a lack of oxygen.

"The mass fish deaths often occur when seasons change between September and October, " the department said.

Earlier in 2016, 2018, and 2022, hundreds of tonnes of fish were also found dead at West Lake. Test results from the Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment showed that the fish died from a lack of oxygen.
