The provincial People's Committee announced on November 1 that it had approved the investment policy for upgrading and widening the western road, designated DT638.
The project will receive VND 800 billion from the central government budget, with the remainder funded by the province.

Preparatory work is scheduled for the 2026-2027 period, with construction planned from 2028 to 2031.
The 18-kilometre route will begin at the southern bypass of the former Phu Phong Town and end at its junction with National Highway 19B.
It will pass through Tay Son, An Nhon Tay, Binh An, Binh Hiep, An Nhon, An Nhon Bac and Phu Cat wards and communes.
The project includes 6.75 kilometres of newly built road, approximately 6.49 kilometres of upgraded and widened sections of National Highway 19B, and five kilometres of existing roads.
A major component will be a new bridge spanning nearly 600 metres across the Kon River.
The road will be built to Grade III highway standards for flat terrain, with a design speed of 80 kilometres per hour.
It will have a 12-metre-wide roadbed, including 11 metres of asphalt pavement and reinforced shoulders.
According to provincial authorities, the project aims to improve connections between National Highway 19, the eastern North-South Expressway, the Quy Nhon-Pleiku Expressway, National Highway 19B and Phu Cat Airport.
The upgraded road is also expected to improve access between western Gia Lai and economic centres, urban areas, industrial parks, Phu Cat Airport and the province's eastern region.
Authorities expect the project to shorten travel times, reduce logistics costs, improve road safety and strengthen regional connectivity, helping attract investment and support economic development.
The Gia Lai Management Board for Transport and Civil Infrastructure Projects has been assigned to coordinate implementation with relevant agencies.
