My Son heritage authorities, Dai Loc Commune officials and forest rangers on October 27, released a 4-kg giant Asian pond turtle and a pangolin into the My Son protected forest.

Both animals had been found by local residents, who suspected they were rare wildlife species and contacted authorities to hand them over.
Health checks confirmed that both animals were in good condition and fit to return to their natural habitat.
According to the My Son World Cultural Heritage Management Board, six wild animals have been received from local authorities and relevant agencies since June for release into the protected forest.

They include reticulated pythons, Burmese pythons, elongated tortoises and striped-necked turtles.
The My Son historical and cultural relic landscape protection area covers more than 1,160 hectares.
