Ben Thanh Market was built in 1912 on a total area of 13,000 square metres in the centre of HCM City.
The century-old market, with its unique architecture style and over 1,400 stalls selling various goods, has become a popular shopping venue and tourist destination for both local people and visitors.
After over 110 years, Ben Thanh Market has deteriorated in many areas.
The market was upgraded for the first time in 1985, and now local authorities are planning a second upgrade to repair its roof, floor, drains, and electricity systems.
Some traders have removed their stalls in preparation for the upgrade, which is scheduled to be completed by April 30, 2025.
Traders hope that the market will attract more visitors after the facelift.
