Nguyen Quang Minh, a student from Electronics & Electro-Refrigeration College said, “This is not the first time I have volunteered even though I am just a first year student. However, this time really means a lot to me because I can contribute towards celebrating the 1,000 year Thang Long-Hanoi ceremony.”

High school pupils also took part in the cleanup. For many, it’s the first time they have worked hard like this. “I don’t have to do such hard work at home. This is the first time I have had to collect rubbish. It’s quite tiring but I feel happy,” said Le Hanh Trang, a 10th grade student at Cau Giay High School.

There were 50 students from Cau Giay High School divided into 2 groups. Each group had different responsibilities. Dieu Linh, an 11th grade student said that she didn’t mind this kind of work because she often does it on Saturday morning's near her home.

Nguyen Truong Nam, a student at the Transport College said that he woke up at 5.30AM to volunteer because his house was very far. He didn’t have enough time for breakfast, he felt tired and hungry, but at the same time he was very happy.

In addition to cleaning up the river, volunteers will be taking down illegal advertising boards.
