Representatives of Dantri Newspaper and local authorities visited Nguyen Thi Lien, 43, in Hoang Giang Commune on August 21 to present a symbolic donation board worth VND 285,153,155.
The amount was raised through the newspaper’s Charity Programme and has been transferred directly to Lien’s personal bank account.

Lien and her husband have four children: Nguyen Phuong Linh, 19; Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, 17; Nguyen Phuong Ngan, 15; and Nguyen Minh Quan, 13.
Three of the four children have been diagnosed with serious health conditions. Phuong Thao and Minh Quan suffer from bone marrow failure, while Phuong Ngan has hyperthyroidism.
Years of medical treatment have exhausted the family’s finances, leaving them unable to cope with the mounting healthcare costs. Facing severe hardship, Lien appealed to Dantri readers for support.
She said the family has also received VND 150 million in direct donations from readers, benefactors and the Thanh Hoa Red Cross Society.
The total assistance received has now reached VND 435,153,155, all of which the family plans to use for the children's treatment.
“My family would like to express our sincere gratitude to readers and benefactors. This generous support gives us hope and encouragement to help our children overcome their illnesses,” Lien said.
Despite their health challenges, the children have continued to pursue their education. Phuong Ngan is preparing to enter Grade 11, Phuong Thao has recently been admitted to upper secondary school, and Minh Quan is about to begin Grade 8.
“The treatment journey is still long, but thanks to the kindness and support of readers, I no longer feel alone in this difficult struggle,” she added.

Lien said the cost of medication remains extremely high. Her husband, Nguyen Duc Nhan, 44, works as a construction labourer, while she sells fruit at a local market when not accompanying her children to hospital appointments.
Nguyen Van Hiep, an official from the Hoang Giang Commune Department of Culture and Social Affairs, thanked Dantri readers for their support.
“The donations are a tremendous source of encouragement for the family during this difficult period and provide the children with better opportunities for treatment and education,” he said.
Local authorities said they would continue to support the family where possible and encouraged them to use the funds carefully to ensure long-term medical care for the children.
