Dantri/DTiNews classrooms in Dien Bien ready for new school year

New classrooms funded through Dantri's charity programme at Huoi Quang 1 school site in Dien Bien Province have been completed and are ready to welcome pupils for the new academic year.

Construction at Huoi Quang 1, part of Ma Thi Ho Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, was completed on schedule despite weather-related disruptions.

Tran Trung Nhan, the school's principal, said on August 18 that all major construction and installation work had been completed.

The 140-square-metre complex includes two classrooms, two staff rooms, a kitchen and two toilet areas, with only repairs to the schoolyard damaged by construction vehicles still under way.
The school is also working with parents to clean the grounds and decorate classrooms ahead of the inauguration and the new school year.

Pupils will return on August 28 ahead of the September 5 opening, while first-year pupils have already started to familiarise themselves with school and improve their Vietnamese.

After the inauguration, pupils will move from their old makeshift classrooms into the new permanent facilities.

Local authorities had earlier worked to clear a landslide blocking the road to the school site, allowing trucks carrying materials and equipment to resume access and helping keep construction on schedule.

The project cost more than VND 877 million (USD 33,000). Dantri readers, Huy Thanh Jewelry and fans of singer SOOBIN Hoang Son contributed VND 835 million, while Na Sang Commune provided the remaining VND 42.1 million.

Dantri is working with local authorities and the school to complete final preparations for the inauguration, scheduled for August 25.

Gifts donated by Dantri readers for 44 pupils and disadvantaged families in Huoi Quang 1 Village have also been prepared.

Once operational, the new facilities will replace makeshift classrooms, providing pupils with a safer, cleaner environment for studying, eating and daily activities, as well as access to new learning technology.

The project is part of Dantri/DTiNews' charity initiative to build permanent classrooms in disadvantaged mountainous, remote and isolated areas across Vietnam.

So far, construction has begun at 60 school sites nationwide with contributions from readers, individuals and businesses. Huoi Quang 1 was the 59th site launched under the programme.

Huy Thanh Jewelry and SOOBIN Hoang Son's fan community raised VND 410 million through a jewellery auction, while Dantri readers contributed another VND 425 million towards the Huoi Quang 1 project.
