Vietnam fuel prices rise for fifth straight adjustment

Retail petrol prices in Vietnam rose for a fifth consecutive adjustment on October 1, while diesel prices fell after three increases.

The ministries of Industry and Trade and Finance decided to raise retail petrol prices from 3 pm on October 1.

The price of E5 RON 92 petrol increased by VND 170 per litre to VND 26,560 (USD 1.02), while E10 RON 95 rose by VND 100 to VND 27,180 (USD 1.05) a litre.

Diesel prices fell by VND 780 per litre to VND 29,710 (USD 1.14), while mazut fuel oil rose by VND 920 per kilo to VND 20,390 (USD 0.79).

For this adjustment, the authorities decided to contribute VND 200 per litre of diesel to the price stabilisation fund.

The latest adjustment means domestic petrol prices have risen for five consecutive periods, while diesel prices have reversed course after three increases. Fuel prices in Vietnam remain lower than those in several other countries in the region.

On September 30, the government issued Resolution 43, extending exemptions from preferential import duties, environmental protection tax and value-added tax on fuel until December 31, three months longer than under the previous regulations.

The new resolution took effect on October 1 and will remain in force until the end of the year.

Excise tax is governed separately by the 2025 Law on Excise Tax No. 66, which sets rates of 8 per cent for E5 petrol and 7 per cent for E10 petrol.
