Dantri Newspaper, in coordination with local authorities, presented a symbolic donation board worth VND 133.55 million (USD 5,120) to Nguyen Van Toan, 30, of Minh Phu Village, Ba Vi Commune, Hanoi on September 5. The full amount had previously been transferred directly to his personal bank account.

Toan has suffered from hip necrosis for many years but postponed treatment in order to save money and care for his parents, both of whom were seriously ill.
After his parents passed away, he turned his attention to his own health. By then, however, his condition had worsened significantly, leaving him with increasing difficulty walking as both legs weakened.
In late February, Toan fell because of his deteriorating condition and was taken to hospital for emergency treatment. Doctors diagnosed a fractured right femoral neck and recommended partial hip replacement surgery using an artificial joint.
His family borrowed money and exhausted available resources to fund the operation on his right hip. However, severe necrosis remains in his left hip, and doctors have advised further surgery.
After years of spending their savings on medical care for Toan's parents, the family was left in severe financial hardship and unable to cover the cost of additional treatment.
Following a report by Dantri highlighting his situation, readers and donors contributed funds to help finance the operation on his left hip.
"I am deeply grateful to Dantri readers for giving me the opportunity to undergo surgery so that I can walk, work and support myself without relying on my sisters," Toan said.
Nguyen Thi Nga, 39, Toan's sister, said the family had done everything possible over the years to care for their parents and support her brother's treatment, leaving them with virtually no financial resources.
"We are extremely grateful to Dantri readers. Their support has given my brother a chance to recover and build an independent life," she said.
Toan, alongside his elder sister and nephew, receives support from Dantri readers with emotion.
Representing local authorities, Do Van Minh, chair of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Ba Vi Commune, thanked Dantri readers and benefactors for their generosity and support for Toan and his family.
