Toan thanked local officials and residents of the villages for helping ensure the houses were built on schedule. He also expressed his gratitude to Dantri readers nationwide for their trust, support and contributions to the project.

"With new homes, these families will no longer have to worry when the rainy season or freezing winter arrives. Children will also have warmer homes, giving them greater peace of mind to study and pursue their dreams," Toan said.

Nguyen Van Duong, Chairman of the Cao Bo Commune People's Committee, said Cao Bo is a mountainous commune where many residents continue to face economic hardship.

For the families receiving support, he said, a new home was more than shelter from rain and sun. It would provide a foundation for them to settle down, work with greater security and improve their lives.

"We sincerely thank Dantri, its readers, social organisations, villages and local residents for working together to ensure the project was completed on schedule. At the ceremony, Dantri, on behalf of its readers, also presented 20 scholarships worth VND 500,000 (USD 19) each to 20 disadvantaged pupils in Cao Bo Commune.

Dang Thi Nhan, 45, was among the recipients of a new home. She said a solid house had been a long-held dream for her family, but they had never imagined it would become reality.

"After receiving VND 60 million (USD 2,260) from Dantri readers, my husband and I borrowed additional money from relatives, friends and neighbours to build the house, which cost more than VND 150 million (USD 5,660)," Nhan said.

"My husband, our children and I are determined to work hard and save money to gradually repay the debt."

She expressed her sincere thanks to Dantri readers and local authorities for helping her family realise a dream that had remained out of reach for decades.
