Dantri and Le Huu Trac National Burn Hospital presented a symbolic donation of VND 239,760,467 (USD 9,221) to the family of Lo Van Ninh, a 16-year-old Thai ethnic minority boy from Than Uyen Commune, Lai Chau Province, on August 15.

The money was donated by Dantri readers after the newspaper published a report about Ninh's circumstances. The full amount had previously been transferred to the account of his mother, Luong Thi Van, to cover his medical treatment.
In addition to donations made through Dantri, Ninh's family received more than VND 35 million (USD 1,346) through a personal bank account and directly at the hospital. The Thien Tam Fund contributed VND 20 million (USD 769).
The family has now received more than VND 274 million in total support.
Van was emotional as she described her son's recovery.
“Every meal used to take him about an hour, and it was very difficult for him to speak. After the surgeries, he can eat and talk more easily, and he can turn his neck again,” she said.
“Our family would like to thank the doctors and medical staff for their dedicated treatment. We are especially grateful to Dantri readers and donors who have helped us afford further treatment and have a prosthetic leg fitted for him.”
Vu Hoang Anh, a nurse at Le Huu Trac National Burn Hospital, said the hospital was expected to begin the process of fitting Ninh with prosthetic legs on August 17.

“On behalf of the hospital, I would like to thank Dantri, its readers and donors for supporting Ninh and many other disadvantaged patients at the hospital,” Anh said. “The donations will give him the means to continue treatment and begin learning to walk with prosthetic legs soon.”
Ninh suffered an electric shock while fishing on December 7, 2025. Doctors had to amputate both legs and his right arm to save his life.

After several procedures to remove dead tissue, skin grafts and reconstructive flap surgery, Ninh was discharged from hospital.
However, burn scars around his mouth and neck contracted, making it difficult for him to chew, swallow, speak and turn his neck.
In May, his family brought him back to Le Huu Trac National Burn Hospital. After two previous reconstructive operations, he underwent two further procedures to release the contractures around his mouth and neck.
Ninh can now speak and eat more easily and turn his neck. He still needs further treatment and rehabilitation under medical guidance.
