Dantri readers fund new school facility in Dien Bien

A new classroom complex funded by readers and donors has opened in Dien Bien, providing improved learning facilities for students in a remote mountain community.

Dantri Newspaper, in cooperation with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dien Bien Province and local authorities, inaugurated a new school facility at Huoi Quang 1 school site in Na Sang Commune, Dien Bien Province, on August 25.

The project was financed through donations from Dantri readers and supporters.

Built on a site of more than 192 square metres, the facility includes two classrooms, two teacher accommodation rooms, a kitchen and two toilet blocks for teachers and students.

The project required a total investment of VND 877.125 million (about USD 33,700). Of that amount, Dantri readers contributed VND 425 million (about USD 16,300), while Huy Thanh Jewelry and the fan community of Vietnamese singer SOOBIN Hoang Son donated VND 410 million (about USD 15,700). Na Sang Commune authorities contributed VND 42.125 million (about USD 1,620).

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Nguyen Xuan Toan, deputy editor-in-chief of Dantri, thanked local authorities, residents, parents and construction contractors for helping ensure the project was completed on schedule.

He also expressed gratitude to Huy Thanh Jewelry, the SOOBIN Hoang Son fan community and thousands of readers for supporting the newspaper's charitable initiatives.

"When implementing our humanitarian programmes, Dantri always strives to bring better learning conditions to students in remote and disadvantaged areas," Toan said.

Po Dieu Ninh, vice chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dien Bien Province, described the new facility as a meaningful gift from readers in Vietnam and abroad to students in the mountainous province.

She expressed hope that Dantri would continue working with provincial authorities and local organisations to support residents, teachers, parents and students across Dien Bien.

Representing local authorities, Tran Hong Quan, deputy secretary of the Na Sang Commune Party Committee and chairman of the commune People's Committee, said the new classrooms reflected a spirit of compassion, social responsibility and solidarity with communities facing economic hardship.

He said the project would help students study in a safer and more modern environment while contributing to improvements in local education quality.

"On behalf of the Party organisation, authorities and people of Na Sang Commune, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to Dantri, the sponsors, organisations, individuals and readers who have supported education in Na Sang and Huoi Quang 1 school site," Quan said.

The commune pledged to ensure the facility is managed, maintained and used effectively for the long term.

During the event, Dantri also distributed 20 gift packages to disadvantaged households in Na Sang Commune. Each package was worth VND 500,000 (about USD 19).

In addition, Huy Thanh Jewelry donated two 65-inch smart televisions to support digital teaching activities at the school.

The SOOBIN Hoang Son fan community provided nearly 2,000 notebooks, backpacks, learning supplies, coloured pencils, crayons, storybooks and new sandals for students.
