Dantri/DTiNews reporters and the Social Work Department at Ha Giang General Hospital recently presented VND 182.7 million donated by readers to Ban Thi Thinh and her daughter, Ban Ngoc Anh, from Tung Ba Commune.
The donations were raised through Dantri/DtiNews's charity programme after the newspaper published an article about the family's difficulties in paying for Ngoc Anh's long-term treatment.
The Thien Tam Fund provided an additional VND 20 million, bringing the total support to more than VND 202.6 million.
Thinh said the donations had arrived at a crucial time and would help the family continue paying for her daughter's treatment.
Ngoc Anh was diagnosed with thalassaemia, an inherited blood disorder, when she was three months old and has required regular treatment and blood transfusions for the past 15 years.
The family has faced persistent financial difficulties, relying mainly on farming and irregular work by Ngoc Anh's father. Long-term treatment costs, including some medicines not covered by health insurance, have forced them to borrow money.
Thinh said two of her other children had died from the same condition.
Part of the donations has also been used to buy essential household items, clothing and school supplies for Ngoc Anh.
Hoang Thi Xa, vice chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Tung Ba Commune, said the support would help the family care for Ngoc Anh during her long-term treatment.
She thanked Dantri/DTiNews readers and benefactors for their assistance and expressed hope that other disadvantaged families in the area would continue to receive community support.
