Vietnam saw a fall in the number of Covid-19 infections on Friday with 14,929 more cases confirmed nationwide, the Ministry of Health has reported.
According to the ministry's report, 14,892 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 62 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (2,885), Bac Ninh (1,013), Danang (886), Hai Phong (635), Quang Nam (617), and Thanh Hoa (582). There were 37 imported cases confirmed the same day.
The new infections showed a decrease of 780 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 10,422 infections found in the community.
As of Friday evening, 2,211,243 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (513,412), Binh Duong (292,799), Hanoi (123,060), Dong Nai (99,832), and Tay Ninh (87,832). Vietnam has so far confirmed 166 Omicron-infected cases.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,218,137. The country now stands 31st among 224 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On January 28, an additional 4,633 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 1,950,244.
On Friday evening, a further 141 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 37,432. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (23), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (16), Vinh Long (9), HCM City (9), Binh Thuan (8), Dong Nai (7), and Can Tho (7).
Vietnam on January 27 administered 785,008 doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 180.36 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 74.01 million people having received two doses.
