Vietnam receives the first batch of Pfizer/BioNtech Covid-19 vaccine on July 7
Speaking at a ceremony held on the morning of July 7 to receive the vaccine, Deputy Minister of Health Truong Quoc Cuong said that Vietnam had discussed with Pfizer/BioNtech producers on the supply of the vaccine since September 2020 and the two sides had reached an agreement on the vaccine supply on June 7.
"We highly appreciate and want to express our thanks to Pfizer producers for their active support in staff training before receiving the Pfizer/BioNtech vaccine", the official said.
The Vietnamese Ministry of Health reminded Pfizer to ensure the supply of 31 million doses of Pfizer/BioNtech's Comirnaty vaccine this year and consider sending 20 million more doses, as well as transfer vaccine production technology for Vietnam in the coming time.
Speaking at the ceremony, a representative from the US Embassy to Vietnam, Christopher Klein, stressed that the US Government has pledged to send two million of Moderna vaccines to Vietnam.
Vietnam has so far received some 105 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine from different sources. The Ministry of Health is negotiating to have 45 million more doses to give to 70% of the population by the end of this year. This month Vietnam will receive eight million doses from Covax.
