Vietnam confirms 277 more Covid-19 infections on Wednesday morning

Vietnam has recorded 277 new Covid-19 infections in the past 12 hours, raising the total number of patients in the country to 22,341, the Ministry of Health reported on Wednesday morning.

According to the ministry's report, 276 of the newly-confirmed patients are locally-transmitted cases most of whom were detected in quarantine sites or areas under lockdown in some localities including 270 in Ho Chi Minh City, two in Phu Yen, two in Dong Nai, and one each in Ba Ria-Vung Tau and Ha Tinh.

Ho Chi Minh City continued to report the highest number of new infections in the country. On Tuesday the city also recorded 710 new patients, the majority of which are individuals who came into contact with confirmed Covid-19 patients or who were detected in either isolation and locked down areas.

As of Wednesday morning, 18,889 locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27, including 7,655 in the virus hotspot of Ho Chi Minh City. The outbreak has so far spread to 55 cities and provinces nationwide.

One imported patient is a 33-year-old Vietnamese man who recently returned from Cambodia. He was sent to a quarantine area in Quang Binh Province upon arrival and is now being treated at a local hospital.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 22,341 including 20,459 locally-transmitted cases.

As of 6 pm on July 6, a total of 8,077 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital.

So far there have been 94 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.

At present, over 200,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.

As of July 7, Vietnam has conducted nearly four million doses of Covid-19 vaccine. More than 235,000 people have received two doses of the vaccine.
