The event will celebrate Khmer cultural heritage while promoting Vinh Long's tourism and cultural attractions, According to the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Ok Om Bok, a traditional Khmer festival, has been recognised as a national intangible cultural heritage. The opening ceremony will take place at 8 pm on November 18 at the Tra Vinh Regional Cultural Centre in Nguyet Hoa Ward.
The week will feature cultural, trade and sporting events, including a Khmer traditional costume contest, a trade fair showcasing rural industrial and OCOP products, and the inauguration of a cultural and tourism site commemorating late composer and People's Artist Vien Chau.
A highlight will be the Ngo boat races on the Lang The River in Binh Phu Commune on November 21 and 22. Teams will compete in men's 1,200-metre and 1,000-metre races and a mixed 1,000-metre event.
Other activities will include cross-country running and traditional games such as stick pushing, sack racing, tug-of-war and bamboo bridge walking.
The programme will conclude with the Ok Om Bok festival night at the Ao Ba Om heritage site in Nguyet Hoa Ward on November 24.
Traditional ceremonies will include moon worship, processions by local Khmer pagodas and the floating of lanterns. Gifts and scholarships will also be presented to disadvantaged Khmer students.
Local authorities said the event was intended to help preserve Khmer cultural traditions while developing tourism products and promoting Vinh Long as a destination.
