Police in Mon Son Commune said on September 23 that the snake, believed to be an Indian python (Python molurus), was voluntarily handed over by a local resident.
The python, weighing about five kilogrammes, was in good health when received.
Police and forest rangers from Pu Mat National Park examined the animal and determined that it was fit to return to its natural habitat. It was subsequently released into the wild after the required procedures were completed.
Local police urged residents not to illegally hunt, keep, trade or transport wildlife and to hand wild animals over to authorities for appropriate handling.
