The north and north-central region will be mostly sunny on September 22, with temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius in some areas. Hanoi is forecast to reach 33-35 degrees.
Meanwhile, an intertropical convergence zone combined with an upper-level easterly disturbance is bringing heavy rain from Hue southwards.
From Hue and Danang to eastern areas from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak, rainfall of 40-90 mm is forecast on Tuesday, with some areas receiving more than 180 mm. Western Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong and southern Vietnam could receive 30-70 mm, locally exceeding 120 mm.
Heavy rain had already hit several areas overnight, with 184.4 mm recorded at Tam Tra in Danang, 108.6 mm in Can Gio, HCM City, and 97.4 mm at Cong Gia Thuan in Dong Thap between 7 p.m. on Monday and 3 a.m. on Tuesday.
Rain is forecast to intensify in parts of central Vietnam on Wednesday, with Hue, Danang and eastern Quang Ngai expected to receive 50-100 mm, locally more than 200 mm. Downpours exceeding 100 mm within three hours are possible.
Moderate to heavy rain is expected to persist across much of central and southern Vietnam on September 24, with localised totals exceeding 100 mm. Authorities warned of thunderstorms, lightning and hail.
