The Airbus A330 wide-body aircraft bearing registration number VN-A969 landed at Phu Quoc International Airport on the afternoon of September 22, marking a new milestone in the airport’s strategy to expand wide-body operations and international air services.
The arrival of the A330 is expected to strengthen the airport’s ability to serve longer international routes and enhance connectivity between Phu Quoc and major tourism markets, including Russia, Kazakhstan, Japan and Australia, as well as selected destinations in Europe.
The introduction of wide-body aircraft comes as Phu Quoc International Airport undergoes significant infrastructure upgrades in preparation for the 2027 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.
Terminal T1 is being expanded to increase annual passenger capacity from approximately six million to nine million travellers, while construction of the new T2 terminal is also under way.
After landing, the captain of the Airbus A330 greeted guests and airport personnel from the cockpit.
Members of the flight crew later took part in a welcoming ceremony following their arrival.
Among those attending the event were former National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and Dinh Van Noi, deputy secretary of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee and secretary of the Phu Quoc Special Zone, who presented flowers to congratulate the flight crew.
Former National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan also toured the aircraft’s passenger cabin during the visit.
The Airbus A330 is configured with three service classes and a total of 247 seats. All cabins are equipped with individual in-flight entertainment screens and onboard Wi-Fi.
The aircraft’s interior features a colour palette inspired by the natural landscapes of Phu Quoc, reflecting the island’s tourism identity as it seeks to attract more international visitors.
