Smart parking confuses Hanoi drivers

Many drivers have been left puzzled when using smart parking service in Hanoi which has been piloted since May 1.

Many drivers have been left puzzled when using smart parking service in Hanoi which has been piloted since May 1.

The iParking application, which will be piloted for three months until August 1 this year, allows users to search and pay for car parking via mobile phones at parking lots along Tran Hung Dao and Ly Thuong Kiet streets, Hoan Kiem District.

The service provides users with a list of vacant parking locations in the piloted areas as well as many other useful features.

However, many people have been confused when using the application and most of them need guidance from the parking lot staff when it comes to making the payment.

Two staff members at the parking lot help customers in case they are not clear about the iParking service.

The staff also provides leaflets to promote the application.

Users have to pay VND15,000 (USD0.65) per hour through Visa, Mastercard or by SMS. The app automatically informs them 15 minutes before their parking times expire, and also allows users to remotely extend their parking.

iParking is currently being applied in the US, France, the UK, Germany, Australia, Japan, Denmark, and Israel. Vietnam is the ninth country to adopt this technology.

The service is currently being applied in17 parking lots with a capacity of 248 spaces on Ly Thuong Kiet and Tran Hung Dao streets. Of these, 16 points will allow parking from 6am to 10pm every day and a 24-hour parking spot.
